STREETLIGHTS
The City owns more than 21,000 streetlights and each year we add about 250 lights as new streets are built. In order
to repair and maintain the streetlight according to City Standards,
we use a trained and certified contractor to install and maintain
the streetlight system. The contractor has a three-day turnaround
for lamp repair and five days for underground repairs.
In order to keep costs (and taxes!) down, the City currently
utilizes high pressure sodium lamps. These lamps give off a
yellow light. Light Emitting Diode (LED) lamps are currently
being developed and as soon as they become commercially available we
will evaluate switching to LEDs, as they give off a whiter light and
consume much less electricity.
