COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT
Description
The Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG)
of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development gives annual
grants to entitled cities and counties throughout the nation.
Arlington receives CDBG funds each year and uses them to strengthen
the community by encouraging decent housing, a healthy living
environment, and expanded economic opportunities for low and
moderate-income persons. These places can be found in the yearly
Action Plan.
Eligible Activities
To be eligible for CDBG funding, an activity must
meet one of these national objectives:
- benefit low income persons;
- prevent or eliminate slum or blight;
- meet other urgent community development needs.
Examples of Programs in Arlington that Receive CDBG Funding
- Housing rehabilitation and adaptation programs, such as the
Housing Emergency Repair Program
- Youth programs, such as Boys and Girls Clubs
- Self-sufficiency and crisis assistance programs, such as The
Salvation Army Family Life Center
- Health programs, such as Dental Health for Arlington
- Senior citizen programs, such as Meals on Wheels
- Disabled citizen assistance programs, such as the Architectural
Barrier Removal Program
- Transportation assistance programs, such as Mission Metroplex
