Why Update the TDP?
Arlington’s current TDP, developed in 2002, is outdated and no longer effectively supports the city’s goals and vision for its future. The thoroughfare plan forms the basis for our roadway capital improvement program, the roadway impact fees, and developer requirements during the project review processes. A well developed and current Thoroughfare Plan helps ensure that the City is maximizing and prioritizing its transportation investments. It is also extremely important in guaranteeing that adequate infrastructure is in place as development occurs in the city.

The current Plan does not reflect the amount and type of growth the city is expected to experience in the coming years. There have been and will be significant population, employment and land use changes that the existing Plan did not consider when it was prepared previously. For example, projects such as Cowboys Stadium, Viridian Planned Development and the Tierra Verde land use plan were not accounted for when the last Plan was created. Land use and transportation changes in the region will also need to be reflected in the updated TDP.
