Boards and Commissions

City Council - The Arlington City Council is comprised of a Mayor and eight City Council members. Elections are conducted every spring in May.

Planning and Zoning Commission - The Planning and Zoning Commission is a nine-member board responsible for making recommendations to the City Council on zoning and subdivision matters. They also participate in special studies, as well as the Capital Improvements Program Advisory Committee and the Airport Zoning Commission.

Zoning Board of Adjustments - The Zoning Board of Adjustment is a nine member board appointed by City Council. The main purposes of the Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) are to provide a “release valve” for those situations where literal enforcement of the Zoning Ordinance may impose unnecessary hardship, and to grant special exceptions that ensure that the City may develop in accordance with the intent and purpose of the Zoning Ordinance, so that land may be fully utilized for a lawful purpose, and that substantial justice may be done.

Landmark Preservation Commission - The Arlington Landmark Preservation Commission provides leadership in identifying, protecting, and developing Arlington's historic structures, districts, and sites and to educate citizens and visitors on the city's past and how it relates to its present and affects its future.
