Boards and Commissions
City Council
- The
Arlington City Council is comprised of a Mayor and eight City
Council members. Elections are conducted every spring in May.
Planning and Zoning
Commission
- The
Planning and Zoning Commission is a nine-member board responsible
for making recommendations to the City Council on zoning and
subdivision matters. They also participate in special studies, as
well as the Capital Improvements Program Advisory Committee and the
Airport Zoning Commission.
Zoning Board of
Adjustments
- The Zoning
Board of Adjustment is a nine member board appointed by City
Council. The main purposes of the Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA)
are to provide a “release valve” for those situations where literal
enforcement of the Zoning Ordinance may impose unnecessary hardship,
and to grant special exceptions that ensure that the City may
develop in accordance with the intent and purpose of the Zoning
Ordinance, so that land may be fully utilized for a lawful purpose,
and that substantial justice may be done.
Landmark Preservation
Commission
- The
Arlington Landmark Preservation Commission provides leadership in
identifying, protecting, and developing Arlington's historic
structures, districts, and sites and to educate citizens and
visitors on the city's past and how it relates to its present and
affects its future.
