Welcome
to Arlington, Texas - The destination place for more than 6
million tourists a year - The city of choice for 332,969
residents.
Centrally located in one of the fastest
growing regions in the country, Arlington takes pride in keeping
its economy vibrant and its neighborhoods, parks and streets
safe. We take pride in our quality emergency medical services,
safe drinking water, excellent schools and community initiatives
at environmental preservation. In 2002, we continue our strong
commitment to service excellence.
Looking at 2001, I recall many successful
moments. The bond payoff of the Ballpark in Arlington 10 years
early, the Olympic Torch making its way through our streets,
standing room only at my first Senior Advisory Council meeting
and the 50th anniversary celebration of our German
sister city relationship were important milestones in 2001.
The terrorist attacks on September 11 can
shape our memory of 2001, but I will forever recall how
Americans stood united with a renewed sense of purpose.
We live in the best city in America. Good
fiscal management, experienced leadership and a dedication to
quality public service makes Arlington an exciting place to live
and one of the most progressive cities in the nation. In 2002,
our most important partnerships will continue to be with the
people who live, work and visit Arlington.
Community partnerships with groups such as
the Planning and Zoning Commission, Citizens Budget Review
Committee, Youth and Families Board and neighborhood
organizations help keep city government in touch with the needs
of its residents. It is our own knowledge and experience
combined with public input that helps us make informed decisions
each and every day of the year.
While we are unable to list every successful
initiative of 2001 on the following pages, this Performance
Report summarizes our collective achievements at addressing the
important needs of our citizens and making Arlington the best
city in America.
