2001 Arbor Day Poster Contest!

2000 Arbor Day Contest
As part of the State of Texas Arbor Day Celebration in 2001, the
Texas Forest Service (TFS) is sponsoring the National Arbor Day
Foundation’s poster contest in Texas. This year’s theme for the
contest is "TREES ARE TERRIFIC… AND FORESTS ARE TOO!"
Who may enter the contest?
Posters must be created by a Texas student currently enrolled in
the fifth grade.
How does the contest work?
Students create the posters in their fifth-grade class, following
the rules of the Activities Guide.
Schools judge the posters by selecting a small group of teachers,
parents, and/or community leaders to review the posters for content,
artistic merit, etc.
Then, schools mail their ONE school-winning poster to the address
below by February 28, 2001.
The State winner will represent the State of Texas in the National
Contest. All Texas regional and state winners will be notified by
April 3, 2001.
What are the rules for creating posters?
All entries must be created by a fifth-grade student. Posters
must be signed by the student in the lower, right-hand corner with
the student’s full name.
Posters may be done in marker, crayon, watercolor, ink, acrylic,
colored pencil, or tempera paint. Collages are not acceptable.
Computer generated art or printing is not acceptable. Entries must
be done on paper that will allow for duplication, display and
framing.
Posters must be no smaller than 81/2" X 11" and no
larger than 14" X 18".
The poster must be related to the contest theme in some way. The
theme "Trees are Terrific…and Forests are too!" must
be on the poster. All words must be spelled correctly.
Entries must be mailed flat, and should not be matted, mounted,
framed or folded.
What prizes are available?
State prizes include a 6-8’ tall tree planted on the school’s
grounds, and fun, educational prizes for the winning student,
teacher and class. The State-winning poster is automatically
entered in the National Poster Contest representing the State of
Texas.
