Arlington Competes for $10,000 Playground Improvement
Grant
Online Voting Competition Ends Dec. 1
The City of Arlington is one of five finalists competing for
a $10,000 playspace improvement grant. If granted, the city
plans to use the funds to create a barrier free playground
for disabled children and their families. The grant is
sponsored by Le’Ron McClain of the Baltimore Ravens, NFL
Play 60, and the national non-profit organization KaBOOM!.
To secure the grant, Arlington is rallying community members
and friends to visit Kaboom.org/Playday and vote for the
project, which is titled Misenhimer Play Day and Ecofest.
Supporters can vote once every 24 hours from now until Dec.
1.
According to Parks Marketing Manager Kelly Drawdy, Arlington
was selected as a grant finalist because of its outstanding
participation in the KaBOOM! Play Day movement. Arlington
sponsored a KaBOOM! Play Day on Sept. 19 that included three
community events: a Naturally Fun Neighborhood Celebration
at Don Misenhimer Park, a region-wide cleanup of the Trinity
River and an Ecofest environmental awareness event in
downtown Arlington. From Sept. 19-27, more than 1,200
communities across the country held KaBOOM! Play Day Events
to expose kids to outdoor fun, recreation and learning.
