Ecofest Arlington on September 19
City of Arlington, Walmart Team Up for the Environment

The City of Arlington and Walmart have partnered to host the 2009 Ecofest Arlington event, September 19 from 2 pm -11 pm, at Founders Plaza and the Levitt Pavilion.

Ecofest activities start at 2 pm and include local talent performing at the Levitt Pavilion (from 2 – 7 pm). At the same time, Parks and Recreation will teach do-it-yourself classes on how to reduce the use of natural resources. Other activities include discussing various environmental issues in North Texas and covering potential solutions to reduce, repair and prevent future environmental problems. Children’s activities are part of the day as well. Youth games and educational classes will be provided throughout the day to engage and delight the participants.

“We are very excited to be hosting our first Ecofest event this year,” said Heather Dowell, Urban Forestry Land Manager. “The information shared at this event will really open our eyes about how each of us can do our part for the environment.”

A humorous documentary called “Garbage! The Revolution Starts at Home” will be shown at dusk on the great lawn in front of the pavilion. Afterwards, “Texas Hall of Fame” singer Patrice Pike and her band will perform at 9 pm to end the day’s events with a bang!

Ecofest was started 20 years ago in New York by the West Side Cultural Center. Arlington joins the Ecofest event for the first time this year. Its primary goals are to have a free, family-oriented event designed to help build a sense of community, stimulate environmental awareness and promote stewardship across North Texas.
