H1N1 News Conference is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Arlington

What: H1N1 Influenza News Conference

Center, 620 W. Division St.
Why: To announce coordinated community efforts to help
reduce the spread of H1N1 influenza as schools prepare to
re-open on Aug. 24. Wednesday’s news conference will include
Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck, Arlington Independent School
District Superintendent Jerry McCullough and Dr. Cynthia
Simmons, the city’s Public Health Authority.
“Together, we share a message of preparedness and
prevention,” Cluck said.
“We remain in daily communication with community partners,
regional, state and federal agencies to closely monitor this
public health issue as a new school year begins and the
upcoming flu season approaches. We stand ready to respond,”
the Mayor said.
On Wednesday, officials will also address H1N1 influenza and
its impact on large public gatherings in the city and CDC
recommendations for the new school year.
A questions and answer session will follow the news
conference.
Background
H1N1 preventative measures include thoroughly washing
hands, covering the mouth when coughing and sneezing and
staying away from others when sick.
Prevention information is available in English, Spanish and
Vietnamese on the City of Arlington website at

and places of employment.
The city’s website also includes a video produced by the
