Purchasing Continues to Earn High Marks in Procurement
The City of Arlington Purchasing Division is one of 28
government agencies to earn an Achievement of Excellence in
Procurement Award from the National Purchasing Institute.
The award is presented to organizations that score high
ratings on standardized criteria that measures innovation,
professionalism, e-procurement, productivity and leadership.
The competition is sponsored by the National Purchasing
Institute, the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing
and a host of other procurement associations, including the
Texas Public Purchasing Association.
According to Purchasing Manager Debra Carrejo, this is a
sixth consecutive win for the City of Arlington. Only 59
other U.S. cities obtained this achievement in 2009.
“The AEP award validates the City's position that a
comprehensive, strong and healthy purchasing program
enhances the value of the taxpayer's dollar by ensuring that
funds are being spent in accordance with Texas statutes and
national best practices,” Carrejo said. “Arlington has
incredibly diligent and well-trained purchasing staff
members who continue to strive for excellence with a mission
of getting the best value for the City at all times.”
The City of Arlington Purchasing Division is responsible for
procuring most City services and supplies. Carrejo has
overseen the division as manager since Dec. 2002.
