Arlington Pharmaceutical Collection Event is August 1

Who: City of Arlington

What: Pharmaceutical Collection Event

When: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1

Where: Water Utilities North Service Center, 200 N. Cooper St.

Why: To properly dispose of expired, unwanted and unused pharmaceuticals


Small concentrations of hormones, antidepressants and antibiotics can enter waterways when flushed down the drain. The City of Arlington Water Utilities Department sponsors this event to collect pharmaceuticals. No sharp objects or needles will be accepted. Proof of Arlington residency is required.

Others ways to dispose of pharmaceuticals:

 Place in Garbage - Take unused, unneeded or expired prescription drugs out of their original containers. Mix the prescription drugs with an undesirable substance such as used coffee grounds or kitty litter. Place into a container such as an empty can or sealable bag and place in the trash.

 Free Disposal at Collection Center in Fort Worth - Take unused, unneeded, and expired medications to the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center at 6400 Bridge St. in Fort Worth for free disposal. Call 817-871-5257 for more information.

 Take Back Program - Some pharmacies will take unused pharmaceuticals and dispose of them properly. Contact your local pharmacist for more information.
