Press Conference to Announce Important Event at Cowboys Stadium

Why: To announce an important Open House event

Mayor Robert Cluck will announce an event at the Cowboys Stadium that is being planned for Arlington residents.

Background

In August 2004, the Arlington City Council unanimously voted to place a $325 million stadium construction bond issue before the voters of Arlington.

On Nov. 2, 2004, more than 55 percent of voters (62,901 residents) approved the proposition, which paved the way for the planning, acquisition, construction and financing of the stadium.

The city’s share of the costs was capped, and funds are being raised through a sales tax increase, a two percent hotel occupancy tax increase, a five-percent car rental tax, a ten- percent ticket tax and a $3 parking tax.

Construction began in 2006. The first pre-season game is set for Friday, Aug. 21.
