What: Unveiling of historical signage in Founders
Plaza
When: 2 p.m., Sunday, May 3
Where: Founders Plaza, 100 W. Abram St., in downtown
Arlington (across from City Hall)
Why: To honor the descendants of six families who
were instrumental in the early development of the Arlington
community. Some of Arlington’s major streets, an elementary
school and golf course currently bear the names of these
individuals and their families. The City of Arlington and
Arlington Historical Society remain committed to preserving
the city’s rich heritage.
Arlington families to be honored on Sunday are Collins,
Cooper, Ditto, Rankin, Rogers and Rose. The program includes
special remarks by Mayor Pro Tempore Lana Wolff, who
represents District 5. A reception will follow at the
Fielder House Museum.

About Founders Plaza
Founders Plaza is the newest crown jewel in Arlington’s
downtown/university district. The plaza features and an
interactive water fountain funded by the Junior League of
Arlington.
Founders Plaza is the site of free concerts and
multicultural community celebrations as part of the Levitt
Pavilion for the Performing Arts, which opened in 2008. In
its first season, more than 15,000 people enjoyed free
concerts under the stars featuring everything from world
music and jazz to country and Latin rhythms.
