Celebrate Earth Day with Parks and Recreation
Celebrate Earth Day with Arlington Parks and Recreation from
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at Veterans Park, 3600
W. Arkansas Lane.
A Naturally Fun Neighborhoods event, this Earth Day
celebration features wildlife, water conservation and
recycling awareness information. Staff and volunteers will
be on hand to answer questions about living green, planting
native landscapes, recycling and composting. There will be
nature walks, free food, disc golf, nature crafts and
children’s games.
During the event, staff and members of the Arlington
Conservation Council will lead tours of the Molly Hollar
Wildscape. Located on half an acre within the park, the
wildscape was built in 1994 and demonstrates how ecosystem
preservation, by composting and utilizing native plants, has
a positive impact on the environment.
Arlington Passport holders can also collect a letter by
walking the trail located in Veterans Park.
The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970. Today, the
Earth Day network stretches across the globe with
organizations in 174 countries. More than 1 billion people
are expected to participate in Earth Day 2009, making it the
largest civic event on the planet.
