Four New Cases of Rabies Confirmed in Arlington

This week, the City of Arlington was notified by the Texas Department of State Health Services about four new confirmed cases of rabies. The confirmed cases are in the 76001, 76017 and 76002 zip codes. All cases involve the positive testing of the rabies virus in skunks.

According to the TDSHS, most cases of rabies in Texas occur in the spring because there are more opportunities for virus transmission during the mating season. Rabies is a disease of overpopulation, and it thrives where there is an abundance of wildlife.
The City’s Animal Services Division reminds all pet owners to maintain current vaccinations of dogs and cats.

This week, the City of Arlington posted the attached rabies notices on web sites and distributed information in the impacted neighborhoods.

For more information about these notices, call Mike Bass, the city’s assistant director of Community Services, at 817-459-5341 or Mike.Bass@arlingtontx.gov.
