Four New Cases of Rabies Confirmed in Arlington
This week, the City of Arlington was notified by the Texas
Department of State Health Services about four new confirmed
cases of rabies. The confirmed cases are in the 76001, 76017
and 76002 zip codes. All cases involve the positive testing
of the rabies virus in skunks.
According to the TDSHS, most cases of rabies in Texas occur
in the spring because there are more opportunities for virus
transmission during the mating season. Rabies is a disease
of overpopulation, and it thrives where there is an
abundance of wildlife.
The City’s Animal Services Division reminds all pet owners
to maintain current vaccinations of dogs and cats.
This week, the City of Arlington posted the attached rabies
notices on web sites and distributed information in the
impacted neighborhoods.
