New Animal Services Center Opens for Business on Jan. 14
Current facility to close for two days beginning Monday, Jan. 12
Arlington’s new Animal Services Center will open for business at
10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, in its new location at 1000 E. Green
Oaks Blvd.
This week, the City of Arlington began moving the center from its
current location on Pioneer Parkway. According to Animal Services
Manager Chrishandra Huff, the center will be closed for two days,
Monday, Jan. 12 and Tuesday, Jan.13, for the safe transport of all
animals to the new shelter.
The new center is located adjacent to the Southeast Branch
Library and the new Dog Park, which increases its visibility and
accessibility to the public.
“We are excited about our new facility and all of the hard work
ahead of us,” Huff said.
More kennels, cages, and climate-controlled rooms with natural
light are among the features of the new center. Medical care, onsite
spaying, neutering, microchipping and public education programs are
among the many daily services provided. Some green design features
of the new center include drought-resistant landscaping and
skylights.
The goal is to improve the health and wellbeing of animals,
enhance community awareness about responsible pet ownership, and
promote the adoption of animals placed in the city’s care each year.
Annually, the Arlington Animal Services Center houses more than
11,000 animals.
The new Animal Services Center is made possible by bond funds
approved by voters in 2003, in addition to individual and private
contributions totaling more than $300,000.
The City of Arlington is planning a community grand opening later
in March. Visit
