City to Host Series of Naturally Fun Neighborhood Events

City to Host Series of Naturally Fun Neighborhood Events
The First Two Events are Planned for June 7 and June 21

The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department will host a series of Naturally Fun Neighborhood Events throughout the city, beginning this month.
The first Naturally Fun Neighborhood Event is 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at Fish Creek

Neighborhood Park located at 2133 Havenwood Drive.
A second event is set for Noon Saturday, June 21, at Bob Cooke Park located at 2025 Craig Hanking Drive.

The events are planned with local neighborhood organizations, said Briarhill Neighborhood Association representative Dwayne Long. He said the purpose is for neighbors to get to know one another.

“We want people to walk away understanding there is a major support system in place for the residents of Arlington, and they are a part of something bigger than any one individual,” said Long.

At the June 7 event, activities include touch-a-truck exhibits with the Arlington Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services and Arlington Police Department. Children’s activities such as obstacle course inflatables, games, crafts and fitness walking with audio books are also planned. Food will be free to all attending the neighborhood picnic.

The Naturally Fun Neighborhood Event at Fish Creek Neighborhood Park will also feature a park dedication and a picnic hosted by the Briarhill Neighborhood Organization. A fishing tank for children and photo opportunities with the RE/MAX hot-air balloon are scheduled.
The Naturally Fun Neighborhood Event at Bob Cook Park on June 21 will include kayaking, dunk-a-cop, a soccer clinic and picnic.

“We’re providing neighborhoods with opportunities to strengthen relationships and improve the quality of life within their community,” said Gary Packan, Assistant Director of Arlington Parks and Recreation.

More Naturally Fun Neighborhood events are being planned for September at Don Misenhimer Park and Vandergriff Park. For more information about this new program, contact Parks Marketing Manager Kelly Drawdy at 817-680-0867 or e-mail kelly.drawdy@arlingtontx.gov.
