Fire Department Promotes Summer Safety at the Pool
Free Pool Safety Checks are Available
Who: Arlington Fire Department
What: Offers free swimming pool safety checks
When: Throughout the summer
Why: To encourage residential swimming pool safety
Background
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, nearly 300
children under age five drown in residential swimming pools every
summer. Nationwide, more than 2,700 children are treated in hospital
emergency rooms for swimming pool-related injuries.
As Memorial Day nears and the hot summer approaches, the Arlington
Fire Department is offering free pool safety checks. Paramedics and
firefighters at Fire Station No. 7 are available to teach residents
about the importance of restricting swimming areas, posting warning
signs, establishing fence pool perimeters and learning CPR.
The department has also developed a helpful Pool Safety Checklist. A
free AFD beach ball will be given to all who request a pool safety
check. Call the Arlington Fire Department at 817-459-5500 to
schedule a free check.
