PRESS RELEASES - MAY 2008

May 2, 2008

Homeowners’ Evening at City Hall is Tuesday, May 6
Event Promotes Building Safety Week

Who: City of Arlington Building Inspection Division

What: Building Safety Week Observance: Homeowners’ Evening at City Hall Event

When: 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 6

Where: City Hall, 101 W. Abram St. (Second Floor)

Why: Building Safety Week is May 5-11. The Homeowners’ Evening at City Hall event provides homeowners with information about safety, energy efficiency and security. Homeowners can learn more about building codes and meet the officials who work to ensure that construction projects in the city are safe and built to last. There will be opportunities to apply for building permits, see a live demonstration of the city’s bomb detection equipment and more.

“Building safety is our number one concern,” said Arlington Building Official Ed Dryden. “The important work that we do is often overlooked until a catastrophic tragedy occurs. During Building Safety Week and all year long, building safety officials and fire prevention officials are working to build safe communities.”

About Building Safety Week
First observed in 1980, Building Safety Week is sponsored by the International Code Council, a membership organization dedicated to building safety and fire prevention.

Building safety and fire prevention codes address all aspects of construction, including the structural soundness of buildings, energy efficiency, sustainability, plumbing and mechanical systems, and the reliability of fire prevention and suppression systems.
