Fort Worth Reports Sewer Line Overflows
Arlington Reports No Risk to Local Water Supply
Fort Worth Water Utility officials reported two sewer overflows near
the Fort Worth and Arlington border. Last night’s heavy rains caused
the Fort Worth sewer collection system to overflow in the 5600 block
of Kaltenbrun Street and at 1305 Gilman Road. The Fort Worth Water
Department reports that the large volume of rainwater diluted the
sewage in the system and the discharges do not pose a risk to public
drinking water supplies.
“These overflows will have no impact on Arlington’s drinking
water,” said Director of Water Utilities Julie Hunt. “This week, 100
percent of the City of Arlington’s drinking water supply is from the
John Kubala Water Treatment plant. That plant receives its raw water
from Cedar Creek and Richland Chambers reservoirs.”
Arlington Water Utilities continuously monitors the water quality
in Lake Arlington to ensure that it is safe before being treated.
The Texas Commission on Environment Quality requires wastewater
system operations to notify the local media and public officials
when large discharges occur from the sanitary sewer collection
system. According to the TCEQ, the public should avoid contact with
affected area streams, ponds and lakes.
