City Council Recognizes Earth Day With Launch of Arlington
Green Team
Who: Mayor, City Council, and representatives from the Arlington
Green Team, which includes the Arlington Chamber of Commerce,
Arlington Independent School District, Corporate Express, Inc.,
Republic Services, Inc., Six Flags Over Texas, Texas Rangers
Baseball Club, The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, The General Motors
Corporation, The University of Texas at Arlington, Wal-mart Stores,
Inc., Whole Foods Market – Parkway as well as the City of
Arlington’s internal group, the Green Policy Council
What: To present an Earth Day proclamation launching the new
Arlington Green Team and recognize inaugural members
When: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008
Where: Council Chamber, 101 W. Abram St. in Arlington
Why: To recognize Earth Day and the gains being made to accelerate
environmental progress. City Manager Jim Holgersson will accept the
proclamation on behalf of the City’s Green Policy Council along with
representatives of other Green Team members (listed above).
Background:
The City’s recent environmental achievements include the
establishment of the Arlington Green Team and the Green Policy
Council. In addition, the City Council has adopted the Clean Green
Arlington Plan, which focuses waste reduction, energy efficiency,
water conservation and clean air.
The Green Team is a voluntary recycling program set up to recognize
area businesses for recycling efforts and to assist Arlington
businesses with the setup and expansion of programs. The program
encourages businesses to recycle and track efforts in reducing the
amount of commercial waste going to the city’s landfill. For more

Special Note:
In partnership with Arlington Independent School District,
environmental entries from the 2008 PTA Reflections “I Can Make a
Difference Contest” will be on public display in the Hall of Mayors.
GM will also have a Hybrid Tahoe showcased in the parking lot near
the Council Chamber.
