Junior High School Eighth Graders to Learn CPR
Large-Scale Training Exercise is Friday, April 25

Format and Timeline:
Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck, Assistant Fire Chief Don Crowson,
Arlington Independent School District Superintendent Hector
Montenegro and District 3 City Council Member Robert Rivera will
open with a general assembly. At 9 a.m. inside the gymnasium,
students will view an instructional DVD walking them through each
step of CPR training, use a mannequin to do chest compressions and
practice rescue breathing. After receiving their training, the
eighth-graders will go into seventh-grade classrooms to demonstrate
the CPR techniques they’ve just learned. There’s also a homework
assignment. The Mayor is asking each student to take what they’ve
learned home to teach their families and friends.
Did You Know?
The City of Arlington has set a five-year goal to train 10 percent
of its population or approximately 36,000 residents in CPR, using a
self-directed training program that teaches CPR in 22 minutes. Since
the program was launched in April 2006, more than 14,000 residents
have learned this valuable life-saving skill. The annual goal is
