Grand Opening for The Studio: Teen Arts Underground is March
15
WHO: City of Arlington
WHAT: Grand opening for The Studio: Teen Arts Underground,
a place where information, technology, and creativity are integrated
to help teens excel in their everyday school work and to develop
creative skills. The overall vision is to connect Arlington teens to
the educational process, engage them in literacy, and empower them
to apply technology in the areas of creative communication.
Ceremony to include ribbon cutting, pizza, donor recognition,
unveiling of the Arlington Alliance for Youth Five Promises artwork,
video gaming, and the launch
of Live Homework Help!
WHEN: Noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 15. Ribbon cutting
at 1 p.m.
WHERE: George W. Hawkes Central Library, 101 East Abram
Street
WHY: As a result of this project, participants can improve
their reading, writing, art, music, and computer technology skills,
be better prepared for college coursework and employment, and
increase their usage of library resources.
Funding
The total project budget is $161,500, with $128,486 raised to
date through the Arlington Public Library Foundation. Donors
include the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Amon G. Carter
Foundation, Chesapeake Energy Corporation, Lockheed Martin
Missiles and Fire Control and Southwest Securities. The
Arlington Public Library Foundation will continue raising funds
within the community to complete the project in the coming
