USBC Board Votes Its Intention to Make Arlington New Home
Local Partnerships Fuel Opportunities to Grow Sport
The City of Arlington is a step closer to gaining the
headquarters of the U.S. Bowling Congress.
On Tuesday, the United States Bowling Congress Board of Directors
voted its intention to relocate the organization’s headquarters to
Arlington where it could join the Bowling Proprietors’ Association
of America. The USBC is the sport’s governing body that provides
programs and services to more than 2.6 million adult and youth
members. The Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America, which has
been in Arlington since 1972, is a trade organization that
represents the business interests of more than 3,400 bowling center
owners worldwide.
Contingent upon approval of an investment from the Texas
Enterprise Fund, Economic Development Manager Robert Sturns said the
USBC Headquarters would re-locate to Arlington later this year. In
addition to office space for about 200 employees, the new campus
will include a 12-to-16 lane combined equipment testing and training
center, he said.
Deputy City Manager Trey Yelverton said Tuesday’s announcement in
Milwaukee, Wis. is a result of many local collaborative partnerships
created as part of the city’s Champion Arlington Economic
Development Strategy.
“Everyone worked extremely hard to develop a compelling
proposal,” Yelverton said. ”We will continue to work closely with
State officials to answer questions and provide necessary
information regarding the pending Texas Enterprise Fund request.”
Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck said the creation of an
international bowling campus in the heart of the city’s
Entertainment District will provide the opportunity for Arlington to
showcase amusement parks, professional baseball, football and now
bowling to the world.
“Arlington is a great community with an excellent quality of
life." Cluck said Tuesday, "Our business climate, convenient
location and competitive housing market made Arlington an attractive
option for the Bowling Congress. The international bowling campus is
a perfect compliment to our Entertainment District and the
professional sports teams who have already made Arlington their
home."
The proposed site is located at 621 Six Flags Drive, across the
street from Six Flags Over Texas, just east of the Rangers’ Ballpark
in Arlington and new Dallas Cowboys stadium.
USBC president Jeff Boje, in announcing the organization’s intent
to relocate, described Tuesday as a “great day for bowling”
“We can set the foundation for tremendous growth and
opportunities for decades to come,” he said.
