Statement from Mayor Robert Cluck about 2/29/08 Rally at
Arlington City Hall
The rally held in Arlington today reminds us of the terrible hate
crime committed against one of our residents a few months ago.
Arlington is healing after this incident. The suspect in the case
has been arrested, charges have been filed against her, and she will
have her day in court. New garage doors have been purchased on
behalf of Ms. Littlejohn, and they have been picked up from the
supplier. I have offered an apology to Ms. Littlejohn on behalf of
our community, and she has publicly accepted it. The City of
Arlington is working with the Department of Justice on an effort
that will assist our community in creating a better understanding
and appreciation for our diversity. For the first time in our
history, Arlington had a Fair Share Committee appointed who
developed an agreement to ensure that all businesses have an
opportunity to work on and benefit from the Cowboy Stadium project.
Every citizen in Arlington should celebrate the many different
talents and assets that exist within our community. We welcome those
who are here for the rally today and encourage them to express their
opinions and share their thoughts. Arlington is an open, fair, and
progressive community that comes together and supports all its
residents.
