Bob Byrd Becomes New Deputy City Manager for Strategic Support

City Manager Jim Holgersson has announced Bob Byrd as the new Deputy City Manager for Strategic Support. Byrd has been serving as the interim deputy city manager for Strategic Support since his appointment in August 2007.

The Strategic Support Team provides city operating departments with the tools and support necessary to ensure quality customer service to the community. The Strategic Support Service Team includes the following departments: Management Resources, Financial Services, Workforce Services, Information Technology and Municipal Court.

“I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve on the City of Arlington management team,” Byrd said. “I look forward to playing a very active role in continuing to improve the programs and services we provide to our citizens.”

In 2008, the Strategic Support Team will focus on several initiatives, including the development of a new capital project financial reporting system and the transition into new municipal court management software. Arlington Teen Court and a stronger partnership with UT-Arlington to re-energize employee development programs are other key initiatives.

Holgersson said Byrd has been a “valuable member of the management team.”

“This appointment is an excellent placement for us as an organization as we continue to meet the many new challenges ahead,” Holgersson said.

Byrd has more than 23 years of service with the City of Arlington. He began his career with the City in 1985 as an assistant street superintendent. He has worked as an assistant director of Community Development, interim director of Municipal Court and director of Environmental Services. Byrd is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy with a bachelor’s of science degree. He served in the United States Marine Corps for five years, earning the rank of captain. The new assignment becomes effective immediately.
