The Filing Period for the Arlington City Council Starts Feb. 11

The filing period begins Monday, Feb. 11, for the Arlington City Council Election. This spring, Arlington voters will be electing City Council representatives for Single-Member Districts 1 and 2 and At-Large Districts 6 and 7. The last day to file for a place on the ballot is 5 p.m. Monday, March 10. Election Day is Saturday, May 10.

Applications are available in the City Secretary’s Office located on the third floor of the Arlington Municipal Building at 101 W. Abram St. in downtown Arlington. Applications are also available at www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/forms/a2-15.pdf.

Arlington City Council candidate filings will be posted at www.arlingtontx.gov/citysecretary. For more information about the filing process, call the City Secretary’s Office at 817-459-6186.

Filing qualifications:

 Must be a United States citizen.
 Must be 18 years of age or older.
 If filing for an At-large or Single-Member district position, must have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the city of Arlington for six months.
 Must reside and be registered to vote within the boundaries of the city limits of Arlington at the time of filing.
 Must not be indebted to the City of Arlington and must not hold any public office of emolument, which is defined as a position for profit or compensation.
 If filing for a single-member district position, must reside and be registered to vote within the boundaries of the respective district at the time of filing.
 Must not have been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court.
 Must not have been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released.
 Must pay a $100 filing fee or present a petition signed by registered voters. Candidates for Single-member Districts 1 and 2 require 25 signatures. Candidates for At-Large Districts 6 and 7 require 61 signatures.
