250 Junior High School Eighth Graders to Study CPR
Large-Scale Training Exercise is Tuesday, January 29

The City of Arlington will take CPR training to Gunn Junior High School gymnasium on Tuesday, January 29 where approximately 250 eighth graders will learn the life-saving skills of cardio pulmonary resuscitation.

The exercise is part of the CPaRlington citywide training initiative that began in April 2006. Gunn is the fifth junior high school in Arlington to sign up and participate. To date, about 13,326 Arlington residents have participated.

An assembly for all Gunn Gator eighth graders will begin at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday and will be led by Gunn Principal Lesia Rodawalt. Other program participants include Mayor Robert Cluck, District 4 City Council member Kathryn Wilemon and Fire Chief Robin Paulsgrove.

Inside the gymnasium, during the morning and afternoon hours, each eighth-grade student will be taught CPR. They will view an instructional DVD that will walk them through each step of CPR training, using a manikin to do chest compressions and rescue breathing. Gunn Junior High School is located at 3000 S. Fielder, Zip Code - 76015.

The lesson on Tuesday also includes an important homework assignment. Students will be instructed to go home and teach family members and friends the basic techniques of CPR.
