Arlington is Among America’s 100 Best Communities for Young
People
Competition Showcases Successful Efforts by US Cities to Help Youth
Succeed
Who: Arlington, Texas
What: To hold 4 p.m. news conference with public, private,
educational and nonprofit community partners whose programs and
services support the academic and social needs of youth.
When: 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24
Where: Dottie Lynn Recreation Center, 3200 Norwood Drive in
Arlington
Why: To announce locally Arlington’s selection as one of
America’s 100 Best Communities for Young People. The winning cities
were announced today in Washington, DC.
Arlington is the only city in North Texas to make the 100 Best list.
Background
This annual competition is sponsored by America’s Promise Alliance,
the nation’s largest alliance dedicated to children and youth. The
100 Best competition recognizes outstanding communities across
America that are the best places for young people to live and grow.
More than 300 communities applied. The 100 winning communities span
37 states.
Arlington will also be eligible to apply for up to $100,000 in grant
funding for more national action youth development strategies.
Mayor Robert Cluck, who is in Washington for a reception honoring
the mayors of winning cities, accepted the award today.
“The city of Arlington is honored to be among the 100 Best
Communities in America for Young People,” the mayor said. “The
ultimate success of any city depends on how well it is able to care
for and nurture the development needs of its youth. In Arlington, we
will continue to make our youth a priority.
Please note: The Arlington Tomorrow Foundation will present at
$20,000 check to the YMCA of Arlington on Saturday at 2 p.m. at
Randol Mill Park.
