Arlington Tomorrow Foundation Awards Grants for the First Time
The Arlington Tomorrow Foundation met yesterday and awarded over
$500,000 in grants to programs that support Arts and Culture,
Beautification, Libraries, and Parks and Recreation in Arlington.
This is the first time the Foundation has awarded grants.
“The goal of the Foundation is to expand the community’s capacity
to achieve great things,” said Mayor Pro Tem and Tomorrow Foundation
President Ron Wright. “The projects and programs that will receive
these funds will significantly improve the quality of life in
Arlington, particularly for our young people.”
The Foundation is funded by the bonus money and royalties paid
for natural gas drilling on City property. The City granted 90
percent of the bonus money and 50 percent of the royalties to act as
a permanent endowment for the Foundation. The interest earned on
that principle is distributed as community grants to City programs
and local non-profits by the Foundation board.
Some of the local non-profits that received funding include
Arlington Quilters Guild; River Legacy Foundation; Junior League;
Boys and Girls Club; Girls, Inc.; and Friends of the Levitt. (A
complete list of grant recipients is attached.) The Foundation will
be hosting check presentations over the next few weeks to award
these grants.
The next grant cycle will target projects that promote safe and
strong neighborhoods in Arlington. Those grants are scheduled to be
awarded in March.
