What: Earns National Night Out 2007 Award from the National
Association of Town Watch, the sponsors of National Night Out
Where: In a national comparison of cities with populations over
300,000 residents, Arlington ranks 12.
Arlington moved up two places from a 14 ranking in 2006. More than
35.4 million people in more than 11,000 communities across the

Why: The National Association of Town Watch scored the overall

“This award indicates that our work to create and maintain strong
neighborhoods is meeting with some success,” Police Chief Theron
Bowman said. “While we're pleased to receive the award, we recognize
the need to work harder and to further increase citizen
participation so that all of our neighborhoods are safe anywhere,
all the time.”
This year’s event included the Arlington Police Department, Crime
Prevention Unit, Arlington Strong Neighborhood Initiative, Community
Services and other city departments whose services and programs
impact the quality of life in Arlington neighborhoods.
National Night Out is a crime and drug prevention event sponsored by
