Arlington SCORES Another Economic Victory!
Small Business Counselors Open Arlington Branch

The city’s Champion Arlington economic development initiative has scored a victory for small businesses who want to succeed and grow in Arlington.

SCORE is a nonprofit organization of retired business owners, executives and corporate leaders who donate their time and expertise as business counselors. SCORE is an acronym for Service Corp of Retired Executives.

Founded in 1964, SCORE has headquarters in Virginia and Washington. There are 389 chapters and more than 400 offices nationwide. Counseling services are free.

The Arlington branch office will open September 13 at the Center for Innovation in Arlington located 202 E. Border St. The center also houses the Arlington Technology Incubator, UT Arlington Grants and Contracts Office and the Center for Entrepreneurial Development. Free counseling services will be available every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 817-272-0684.

Volunteer business counselors are needed for the Arlington office. George Lochetto, the North Texas Assistant District Director of SCORE, said volunteers must be experienced business experts, owners or managers who want to help small businesses succeed and grow.

“SCORE volunteers provide leadership in the business community,” Lochetto said. ”They earn respect as business mentors and enjoy the satisfaction of contributing to the success of others.”
Lochetto retired from a national auto leasing company after 18 years in sales and marketing. Brent Henrich is the North Texas District Director, a past SCORE chapter chair, and brings many years of international business experience to the organization. Kenneth Yancy is the CEO.
Deputy City Manager Trey Yelverton said Arlington has scored another victory for small businesses.

“The City of Arlington and Chamber of Commerce continue our commitment to economic development and we’re working together to give more small businesses access to services that will help them grow and succeed,” Yelverton said.
To become a volunteer, call the SCORE Office at 817-871-6002 or e-mail scorefw@gmail.com. Lean more about SCORE at www.score.org.
