Arlington is Recognized Nationally for its Online
Accessibility to Housing Assistance Programs

Why: The Arlington Housing Authority’s web-based
application process is increasing efficiency and improving
accessibility for applicants seeking housing assistance. Using a
computer and the internet, applicants can apply for assistance from
home, work or at any Arlington Public Library, 24 hours a day.
There’s even a computer kiosk located in the AHA Central Office at
501 W. Sanford St. The AHA received over 10,000 applications within
the first year of re-opening the application process in 2006 after a
five-year hiatus.
The AHA also earned recognition for the implementation of a Pay
Card program that allows eligible program participants to receive
monthly supplemental funds, improving convenience and saving
participants check cashing fees. The AHA is the first housing
authority in the country to implement this pay program.
The Arlington Housing Authority is governed by a Board of
Commissioners appointed by the City Council. The AHA is affiliated
with the City through an Inter-Local Cooperative Agreement. Their
mission is to advocate for and pursue affordable housing
opportunities for low income person in Arlington.

our clients,” said Community Services Director Lee Hitchcock. “The
result is superior service to our community and citizens.”
