Arlington is Among U.S. Cities Recognized for Livability
A community-based initiative to train Arlington residents in CPR has
earned national recognition by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
This week, Arlington earned a 2007 Honorable Mention for its
CPaRlington program, which is training the city’s population to
properly administer cardio pulmonary resuscitation or CPR. Since it
was launched in 2006, more than 8,500 Arlington residents have
learned the life-saving techniques. The program is a partnership
that includes the City of Arlington, University of Texas at
Arlington, the Arlington Independent School District and the
American Heart Association.
The recognition is part of the U.S. Conference of Mayor’s City
Livability Award Program that honors mayors and their city
governments for developing programs that enhance the quality of life
in urban areas. The award was presented Monday in Los Angeles, CA.
“We are pleased to be recognized nationally, and this recognition
motivates us to continue our commitment to providing more
opportunities to educate our community about the importance of
bystander CPR,” said Mayor Robert Cluck.
Other large U.S. cities with populations greater than 100,000
earning 2007 Honorable Mentions were: Cleveland, OH; Denver Colo.;
Fresno, CA and Philadelphia, PA.
The City Livability Awards Program is sponsored by the U.S.
Conference of Mayors and Waste Management, Inc.
