Two Arlington City Council Members Earn Hero of Homeless
Awards
Mayor Pro Tempore Ron Wright and District 1 City Councilmember Mel
LeBlanc have earned top honors from the Arlington Life Shelter.
The Arlington City Council members were presented Heroes of the
Homeless Volunteer Awards during the Arlington Life Shelter’s annual
spring luncheon.
Executive Director Becky Orander said the awards are given
annually to individuals and organizations that make significant
impacts on homeless services in Arlington.
Wright served as Life Shelter board president in 1993-94 and has
been involved in the expansion of services to be more rehabilitative
in nature, Orander said.
LeBlanc is the current Life Shelter board president and has played a
significant role in increasing income and visibility of the shelter.
“The Arlington Life Shelter values their leadership and
commitment to improving homeless services in our city,” Orander
said.
LeBlanc has been a member of the Arlington City Council since
2006 and Wright has been a member of the City Council since 2000.
The Arlington Life Shelter is in its 20th year of serving
Arlington and the surrounding community. The organization guides
homeless men, women and children towards a lifestyle of self
sufficiency. To learn more about the Arlington Life Shelter, visit
