Children’s Day/Book Day is Saturday, April 28

April 26, 2007

On Saturday, April 28, the Southeast Branch Library at 900 Southeast Green Oaks Blvd. will host a celebration of childhood and bilingual literacy.

Activities to celebrate El Dia de los Ninos will begin with a bilingual puppet show performed by Bowie High School’s LULAC organization, performances by Bowie High School’s Folklorico Dance Troupe and salsa dancers, arts and crafts, refreshments, and fun door prizes.

At 1 p.m., the celebration continues at the East Arlington Branch at 1624 New York Avenue with a Piñata Party. The program starts with Mr. Perales as guest reader. Children will make their own piñata, mosaic picture, and Ojo de Dios. At 2:30 p.m., it’s special bilingual story time and the breaking of the piñata.

El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day) is a celebration of children, families, and reading which is held annually on April 30. According to Andi Davis with the Arlington Public Library, the celebration emphasizes the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
