Fort Worth Continues to Mitigate Sewer Overflow Near Area
Creek
Arlington Reports No Risk to Local Water Supply
April 4, 2007
As of Wednesday morning, the City of Fort Worth continues to
mitigate a sewage spill that occurred Tuesday near Village Creek.
Fort Worth city engineers say the blockage in their 39-inch sewer
line caused a large amount of sewage to spill out of a manhole and
into nearby Village Creek, which is downstream from the Lake
Arlington dam.
Arlington Water Utilities Director Julie Hunt said the discharge
does not pose a risk to the public drinking water supply in
Arlington. Increased monitoring and cleanup continues throughout the
day.
The Texas Commission on Environment Quality requires wastewater
system operations to notify the local media and public officials
when large discharges occur from the sanitary sewer collection
system. According to the TCEQ, the public should avoid contact with
affected area streams, ponds and lakes.
