PRESS RELEASES - MARCH 2007
Arlington Among 150 Cities to Participate in Statewide Warrant
Roundup
Options are Available to Avoid Arrest
March 1, 2007
The City of Arlington is among 150 cities in 52 counties giving
individuals with outstanding warrants the opportunity to voluntarily
take care of their citations to avoid arrest during a statewide
roundup, which begins March 3. The roundup ends March 10.
Individuals with Arlington warrants can appear at the Arlington
Municipal Court at 200 W. Abram St. and pay the amount owed or
request an appointment for a judge’s walk-in appearance. Cases
currently in warrant status can also be paid at an authorized
payment location in Arlington, seven days a week. For a listing of
locations, visit the City of Arlington website at
www.arlingtontx.gov/municipalcourt.
According to Municipal Court Director David Preciado, failure to
comply with orders of the court is becoming more of a problem across
the state. Nearly 50 percent of the participating agencies report a
total of over one million outstanding warrants.
“The combined efforts of the participating agencies show that
courts across the state are very serious about matters of
noncompliance,” he said. “We would like the public to understand
that it’s in their best interest to take care of citations before
they become warrants.”
Efforts to gain compliance will not end with this roundup. Law
enforcement agencies will actively attempt to serve warrants until
the person either voluntarily takes care of the citation or is
arrested.
