City Launches Annual Animal Essay Contest
Entry Deadline is Friday, Feb. 2

The Arlington Animal Essay Contest is open to all public and
private school students in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 who reside within
the city limits of Arlington. The entry deadline is 5 p.m. Friday,
Feb. 2.
The annual contest inspires students to write essays about topics
relating to responsible pet ownership. Last year, 1,167 essays were
submitted.
The top three winners in each grade level will receive United
States Savings Bonds. First place winners will receive $500, second
place winners will receive $350 and third place winners will receive
$150. Winners will also be recognized on Tuesday, March 6, at 6:30
p.m. during the Regular Meeting of the Arlington City Council.
Submitted essays must not be more than 500 words. Essays will be
judged on the elements of effective writing and must be written on
the topic assigned by grade level:
- Grade 3 Essay Topic: If animals could talk, what would they
say?
- Grade 4 Essay Topic: What feelings do you think animals
have?
- Grade 5 Essay Topic: What are some ways that you can make
life better for animals in your community?
- Grade 6 Essay Topic: How do animals benefit us in our daily
lives?
