Arlington Neighborhood Academy Begins Thursday, Jan. 11

A wealth of useful information about your city in a classroom
setting, service projects, graduation: The Arlington Neighborhood
Academy returns Thursday, Jan. 11 as an eight-week course designed
to enhance neighborhood effectiveness.
The City of Arlington and Neighborhood Coordinator R.J. Blair
have planned a program that includes four weeks of class work and a
four-week service project. Classes are 6 p.m. every Thursday through
April 26. The academy meets in Council Briefing Room at City Hall,
101 W. Abram St.
The program has three tracts. The Basic Tract “Accessing City
Services I & II begins Jan. 11. The Leadership Tract “Seven Habits
of Highly Effective Neighborhood Organizations,” begins February 8.
The Youth Tract “Tomorrow’s Leadership” is for residents age 14-17
and starts March 8. June is Neighborhood Month. Academy graduation
and communitywide celebrations are planned.
The Arlington Neighborhood Academy is for any Arlington resident
or community stakeholder who wants to help reinvigorate Arlington
neighborhoods, Blair said. To date, 15 residents have enrolled in
the Basic Tract. Enrollment in the Leadership Tract and the Youth
Tract remains open.
