A variety of free, educational activities occur at the Arlington
Public Library every month. For a comprehensive listing of programs

December Programs
Sit and Stitch
Calling lovers of knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, and all
forms of needlecraft! Join us the first and third Saturdays of the
month at the Northeast Branch Library at 1905 Brown Blvd. from 2:30
p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to show off your work, share tips, tricks, new
ideas and meet others who share your passion. The first meeting will
be Dec. 2. Bring your current work in progress and holiday ideas to
share. Adults and teens are welcome.
It’s a Wrap: Make Your Own Holiday Gifts
It’s the season for giving! Teens in grades 7 to 12 are invited
to join the Northeast Branch at 1905 Brown Blvd at 4:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 5 to make simple, low cost gifts for friends and
family. Choose from bookmarks, CD holders, tie-dyed journals, visors
and beaded-necklaces, and holiday gift bags.
Anime-niacs
Join the Northeast Branch Library at 1905 Brown Blvd. at 4:30
p.m. the first Tuesday of each month to watch and discuss different
anime series. This program is especially for students in grades 7 to
12.
Woodland West Reading Group
Join the Woodland West Branch Library at 2837 W. Park Row Drive
at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month for good books and good
conversation.
December 5 - Holes by Louis Sachar
January 2 - A Hole in Texas by Herman Wouk
Nutcracker in a Nutshell
Join the Southeast Branch Library at 900 SE Green Oaks Blvd. at
6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec.12 for a mini version of the Nutcracker with
puppets! S&D Puppetry will perform this classic holiday story that
celebrates the season of gift giving and children’s dreams. Children
and adults are welcome to come in pajamas. Refreshments and a craft
will follow the puppet show. Registration is required. This program
is for ages 5 to 12.
Teen Christmas Craft Party
Join Miss. Buffy for a Christmas craft extravaganza. Make and
take presents for family and friends at the Southeast Branch Library
at 900 SE Green Oaks Blvd. at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14. Registration
is required. This program is for students in grades 7 to 12.
Refreshments will be provided.
Northeast Arlington Reading Group
The Northeast Arlington Reading Group will meet at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, December 14 for our special end of the year celebration!

Calling All American Idol Wannabes
Hey Superstars! Show off your skills at our After Hours Holiday
Karaoke Party! We’ll have singing, pizza and soda at the George W.
Hawkes Central Library at 101 E. Abram St. on December 15 from 6
p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This program is for teens in grades 7 to 12.
Mayor Cluck’s Holiday Party for Children
Mayor Robert Cluck invites the children of Arlington to join him
for a festive holiday party at the George W. Hawkes Central Library
at 101 E. Abram St. at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 16. The Mayor
will read The Night Tree by Eve Bunting, a heart-warming story about
a family’s very special holiday tradition. Children can make a pine
cone birdfeeder to hang in the trees on the library grounds.
Entertainment will be provided by Miss Persis’ Studio of Dance. This
program is for children ages 3 to 10 years-old.
Create a Frame
Join us at the Southeast Branch Library at 900 SE Green Oaks
Blvd. at 2:30 p.m. Saturday December 16 to express your creativity
using paint, paper and stamping techniques. Take home a lovely
wooden frame to display your favorite picture. This program is for
adults. Space is limited. Call the Southeast Branch at 817-459-6395
to register.
Visit Zuckerman’s Farm: Program inspired by story Charlotte’s
Web
Come have a terrific time with us as we meet Wilbur. We will
present a puppet show based on the book. There will also be games to
play and radiant crafts to make. This free program is appropriate
for children in elementary school.

All Aboard the Polar Express
On Saturday, December 23, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., join in the
holiday spirit with the library staff of the Northeast Branch
Library at 1905 Brown Blvd. Children of all ages and their parents
are invited to a special holiday story time. First we’ll read the
Chris Van Allsburg book, The Polar Express, and then we’ll see a
movie. We’ll also drink cocoa, ring bells, make holiday crafts, and
sing a few carols.
Northeast Teen Movie Night
Because of library closings in observance of the holidays, there
will be no teen movie night at the Northeast Branch Library in
December. Please join the library on Jan. 22 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. for
our next teen movie.
