PRESS RELEASES - DECEMBER 2006
Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?
Arlington MLK Jr. Celebration Committee Announces Keynote Speaker
December 1, 2006
The Reverend Sherman C. Gee Allen will serve as the keynote
speaker at the Arlington MLK Sharing the Dream Awards Banquet on
January 12. Allen will speak on the theme: Where do we go from here:
Chaos or Community? The 45-year old is a Mansfield resident, noted
author and lecturer. In 1983, he founded Fort Worth’s Shiloh
Institutional Church of God and Christ.
Allen has conducted revivals, crusades and conferences in 28
states and three foreign countries. For many years, he hosted “Word
Alive” on KHVN radio, and has authored many books, including
Understanding the Flow of the Anointing and For Better or For Worse.
For more than 20 years, he has been involved in ministries
throughout the Metroplex, espousing the belief that “ministry cannot
be limited to the church, nor preaching from the pulpit.” He is
active in many organizations, including founder and executive
director of the Shiloh Economic Development and Community Services
Corporation, a faith-based community development corporation; CEO of
the Shiloh Realty Management Group and vice president of Fort
Worth’s Black Ecumenical Leadership Alliance.
Dr. Theron Bowman, who chairs the 2007 MLK Celebration, says
Allen was chosen to speak on this year’s theme because of his
experience, leadership in the community, and style of preaching and
teaching.
This year’s Sharing the Dream Banquet is the kickoff event for
four days of multicultural celebrations in Arlington. The banquet
will also feature student winners of the Sharing the Dream Essay and
Art competitions, and presentations of the 2007 Sharing the Dream
Awards in education, government and community service.
