Front Street Festival is Saturday, Sept. 30
Live Entertainment, Food, Fun and History Highlight Annual Event
September 22, 2006
The Front Street Festival gives spectators a glimpse into
Arlington’s past more than 130 years ago.
“It is a celebration of our rich heritage,” said lead festival
planner Geraldine Mills, who also serves as the director of the
Arlington Historical Society. “The Front Street Festival is an
opportunity for us to celebrate and re-live history with food, fun
and living history demonstrations.”
The festival is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, September 30. Front
Street is located in downtown Arlington between West and Center
streets, south of Division Street.
The festival will feature live musical entertainment on Front
Street, artists, vendors and Civil War era re-enactment groups,
including the First U.S. Infantry, the Col. M.T. Johnson Sons of
Confederate Veterans and Bear Creek Buffalo Soldiers.
Children’s activities, including storytellers in the one-room
schoolhouse, cornhusk doll-making workshops and face painting will
occur throughout the day in Knapp Heritage Park. Admission into the
park area is $2 per person or $5 for a family of four. Proceeds
benefit the maintenance of the park and efforts to rebuild the train
depot.
Parking will be permitted on Center Street and West Street. Front
Street will be closed from Center to West streets. Pecan Street and
Oak Street will also be closed.
