Temporary Outdoor Irrigation Restriction is Effective
Immediately
August 18, 2006
The City of Arlington has issued a mandatory restriction that
requires all residential and commercial properties to discontinue
outside irrigation until 1 a.m. Monday morning.
The extreme drought and 33-days of over 100-degree weather is
taking a toll on the city’s water system. Arlington is currently
pumping more than 110 million gallons of water a day as compared to
the normal average of 65 million gallons per day.
With the continued increase in demand and a recent mechanical
problem, Water Utilities officials have requested the mandatory
restriction, which is effective immediately. The process of
conducting a repair at one of the city’s water treatment plants is
currently underway. These repairs will allow the City of Arlington
to continue to meet the elevating demands. The repairs are scheduled
to continue through the weekend.
Hand watering of container plants and flower beds will be
permitted.
“We thank all of our customers for their cooperation and we continue
to encourage wise water use at all times,” said Water Utilities
Director Julie Hunt.
