Kelly Clarkson, Watch Out! Arlington Has Its own Idols
Parks Department Presents “Arlington Idol” on August 4
August 3, 2006
The organizers of an upcoming talent competition say Kelly
Clarkson is no longer the only idol in Texas. This Friday, more than
500 Arlington idols will converge on the Bob Duncan Center to
showcase their dancing, singing and acting talents. The participants
are campers of the Arlington Parks and Recreation Summer Day Camp
program.
“Our campers have been working all week to perfect their acts,”
said organizer Whitney Graham, who works as the facility manager at
the Dottie Lynn Recreation Center. “There will be musical numbers,
dancing, original skits and even some gymnastics.”
Scott Hoying, a local singer and past Radio Disney award winner,
will open the show at 10:30 a.m. The idols will begin performing at
1 p.m. The show is expected to end at around 3:30 p.m.
“This is something our campers have been looking forward to all
summer,” Graham said.
The show is made up of more than 30 acts and all 500 summer
campers are participating in the event.
“Even the counselors are taking part,” said Graham. “They’ve been
staying late at the centers preparing their costumes and practicing
their acts.”
The Bob Duncan Center is located at 2800 S. Center St. in
Vandergriff Park. The show is open to the public. Admission is free.
