The City of Arlington is currently accepting applications for the
Fiscal Year 2006 Arts and Cultural Grant Program. The application
deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, August 25.
Certified nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations with programs in
Arlington are encouraged to apply. The program or activity must be
completed no later than September 30, 2007.
The purpose of the Arts and Cultural Grants Program is to
promote, encourage and assist in the application of the arts. The
program is designed to foster a high level of quality, creativity
and diversity in all forms of arts and cultural programs in
Arlington and to forge new partnerships with the city’s arts and
cultural agencies and private sector.
Hotel occupancy taxes totaling $100,000 are being used to fund
the FY 2006 Arts and Cultural Grant Program, according to Marketing
Manager Gerald Urbantke who is helping to administer the program. To
date, three $25,000 contracts have already been awarded this summer.
The remaining $25,000 will be distributed among other applicants
based on established criteria. City officials will review and score
applications before making recommendations to the City Manager’s
Office. Grant recipients are scheduled to be approved by the Mayor
and Arlington City Council in September.
