Tennis players from across the country will arrive
at the Arlington Tennis Center next month for the 2006 USTA National
Open Championships Girls’ 14, which begins Saturday, May 20 in
Arlington.
The five-day event is included in the National
Junior Tournament Schedule and is sanctioned by the USTA Youth
Competition and Training Committee. This tournament was first hosted
by the Arlington Tennis Center in 2001.
"Tennis players will be visiting from all over the
United States, including California, Florida and New York," said
Sheryl Osborn, Acting Facility Manager for the Arlington Tennis
Center.
Although the tournament does not begin until
Saturday, May 20, players are scheduled to begin arriving for a 7 p.m.
meeting on Friday, May 19. The meeting is an opportunity for the
tournament director and referee to review important aspects of the
tournament with the players. A group photo will also be taken.
According to Osborn, the draws will be updated
nightly after all rounds for the day have been completed. Results will
be reported daily to local media. Awards will be given, including a
Sportsmanship Award to be presented to the player who demonstrates
overall positive sportsmanship on and off the court throughout the
tournament.
