The Arlington City Council will recognize the University of Texas
at Arlington Movin’ Mavs Wheelchair Basketball Team during their
Regular Meeting tonight at 6:15 p.m. in Council Chamber.
On April 1, the UTA Movin’ Mavs won their seventh national
championship at the National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball
Tournament held at the University of Illinois. The team is coached by
Jim Hayes who has led all seven collegiate championships.
The team features three players who participated in the Paralympics
Games in Athens, Greece, six players who have been chosen Most
Valuable Player and 16 who have been named to the First Team
All-American Squad. Every team member is on a full athletic
scholarship at UTA.
According to the proclamation to be issued tonight, April 25, 2006
is UTA Movin’ Mavs Day in recognition of the team’s hard work and
dedication.
