PRESS RELEASES - APRIL 2006

Site Excavation Work Begins
Contractors Plan to Remove an Estimated 750,000 Cubic Yards of Soil from Stadium Area

April 21, 2006

Land excavation, grading and soil transport operations will start next week in the Core Project Area of the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. According to construction management team officials, this activity is expected to continue daily until mid September.

Manhattan Construction officials estimate that more than 750,000 cubic yards of dirt will be moved off-site from the stadium bowl or footprint area. Construction Superintendent Jeff Stroud said raising the elevation of the stadium project has significantly decreased the amount of soil scheduled to be removed from the project area.

The soil is being transported to sites east and west of the Metroplex. For the next five months, approximately 500 trucks will move through the Core Project Area daily.

Primary Haul Routes for Daytime Operations

Beginning Tuesday, April 25
6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
From the Cowboys Stadium Core Project area, trucks will move east on Division Street to State Highway 360, east on Interstate 20 to State Highway 161. Trucks could also move east on Division Street, south on Stadium Drive and east on Abram Street to SH 360.

Alternate Haul Route for Nighttime Operations

Beginning Monday, May 22
9 p.m. until 6 a.m.
From the Cowboys Stadium Core Project area, trucks will move north on Collins Street, west on Interstate 30 to Loop 820

Transport hours will be modified during Rangers games to help minimize traffic congestion.

Safety Reminders for Sharing the Road with Large Trucks *

  1. Watch for large moving trucks during day and night hours.

  2.
  3. Maintain a safe distance. Do not follow too close.

  4. Never cut in front of a large truck. Trucks take a longer time to stop.

  5. Remember: Large trucks need room to make turns.

  6. Pass safely and maintain a consistent speed.

The public can report safety issues via the Citizen Action Request Form or on the 24-Hour Citizen Action Request Line at 817-459-6777.
