Earth Day is Saturday, April 22, and the Arlington
Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a community event to help
clean up recreational areas along Lake Arlington.
Volunteers will gather at 9 a.m. Saturday, April
22, at two park area sites near Lake Arlington. Arlington volunteers
will focus on the shoreline near Richard Simpson Park located at 6300
W. Arkansas Lane. Fort Worth volunteers will pick up along the eastern
shoreline near Eugene McCray Park at 3449 Quail Road. Garbage bags and
other cleaning equipment will be provided. Volunteers are asked to
bring gloves and any personal items necessary for cleaning and picking
up debris.
According to Lake Arlington Supervisor Ted Clay,
the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department is teaming up with the
Arlington Water Utilities Department and the City of Fort Worth Parks
and the Community Services Department to help make the lake
environment safe for the upcoming summer season. The Handley Station -
Exelon Corporation located on Lake Arlington will provide volunteers
and serve participants with a hot dog lunch.
"We are excited to partner with other agencies to
clean up Lake Arlington," Clay said.
